It's getting there for Anderlecht - Tau on Kompany's start as head coach

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star appears to have settled at the Belgian giants where he has become a regular

South Africa forward Percy Tau says that his club Anderlecht are still work in progress under coach Vincent Kompany.

The 34-year-old Manchester City legend as assumed full time managerial duties and is in his first job as a head coach after taking over from Franky Vercauteren at the beginning of this season.

Under Kompany, Tau is one of the regulars, featuring in seven of Anderlecht’s league games.

But the Belgian giants have struggled for consistency after managing three victories, four draws and a defeat to Club Brugge last weekend.

“Life is okay and we're getting some good results‚ but then we've also lost a game. We've just lost one game and drew a couple‚ so ja‚ we're still have to get more points,” said Tau as per Sowetan Live.

“It’s getting there. I'm still new at the club and I have only played like seven games and it's a new coach [Kompany] who's just finished playing football‚ and is now switched to become a coach.

“So everything is still new but then I will see with time how everything develops. We also signed some new players.”

Tau has contributed two league goals so far in Anderlecht’s campaign after joining the club on loan from Premier League side Brighton Hove and Albion at the beginning of this season.

Smart from the last weekend’s 3-0 defeat by Club Brugge, Tau has resumed his international career with Bafana Bafana after nearly a year of national team inactivity.

South Africa gear up to face Namibia in an international friendly match at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Thursday, before taking on Zambia at the same venue on Sunday.

Tau has emphasised on the friendlies helping Bafana players to “know and trust each other” after coach Molefi Ntseki introduced a number of new faces in his squad.

“It's nice being back home and it's always a great opportunity to come back and represent the nation. Seeing the guys again‚ that is nice‚” Tau said.

“Of course I came home to play. And it's always a great opportunity for me to play for the national team. Also it's good to see the other guys here. “We just want to see how we're feeding off each at training so that we know we can trust each other. So it will be good to see how we all interact.”

The Namibia match will be Ntseki’s fourth match at the helm of Bafana since taking over from Stuart Baxter after last year’s Africa Cup of Nations finals.
